After nearly 80 years, St. George’s Church in Vilnius (K. Sirvydo St. 4) has reopened its doors. The church is now home to the Vilnius Academic Pastoral Care Centre, which brings together students from different higher education institutions in Vilnius, creating an open space for community, gatherings, and student-led initiatives.

This is a truly exceptional place, both in its history and atmosphere. St. George’s Church once stood in the courtyard of the Radziwiłł Palace, where Queen Barbara Radziwiłł herself once walked. The church acquired its present appearance in the mid-18th century and remains an outstanding example of mature Baroque architecture. Inside, visitors can discover preserved 18th-century frescoes, sculptures, and a remarkable early 20th-century atmosphere that feels almost frozen in time. Bernardinai.lt

The VCD team had the opportunity to visit the church and experience this extraordinary space firsthand. Its history, architecture, frescoes, and the distinctive atmosphere of its yet-to-be-restored interior create an environment that can inspire even the most contemporary creative ideas.

The church is already open to visitors and is now becoming a vibrant space for students once again. Every Sunday at 7:00 PM, a Student Mass is celebrated here, followed by an informal student gathering and an opportunity to connect. The Vilnius Academic Pastoral Care Centre aims to make this a place where students can meet, build a community, and feel at home. Bernardinai.lt

We invite VCD students, especially those from our creative disciplines, to explore this remarkable place beyond its historical and architectural significance – as a unique space for creativity, exhibitions, installations, performances, projects, gatherings, and new initiatives.

Do you have a creative idea that deserves an unconventional setting? Feel free to reach out to the team at the Vilnius Academic Pastoral Care Centre.
