VCD Open Lecture: Dave Sedgwick

Graphic design doesn’t always seek to be loud. In his practice, Dave Sedgwick takes a different approach, prioritising clarity, structure, and long-term thinking. His independent design studio, Studio DBD, is built on the idea that form should emerge from content, with visual solutions developed without unnecessary embellishment.

On February 17, during the fifth VDK Open Lecture, the discussion will explore design as a discipline: how to build systems that work across different contexts, and how to maintain consistency and a distinctive authorial voice when working on a variety of projects. Dave will share his approach to typography, visual identities, and the everyday decisions that shape the quality of a studio’s work.

This lecture is for those who see design not simply as a style, but as a responsibility - the ability to create with clarity, precision, and purpose.

The lecture is open to everyone and free of charge.
