This year’s theme was “The virtual human in our society”. For a week students from different countries worked in mixed groups on prototypes of a virtual human and of its place in society now and in the generations to come. The discussions raised questions about values, global problems, digital representation, and how these young people picture the future they are themselves building. M. Kuraitytė, lecturer in the Graphic Communication Design department, discussed final master’s projects with students and shared her own reading of them, and worked with Prof. Dr. Ann Bessemans on an article about eye-tracking visualisations and reading patterns. At the end of the week she gave a talk, “Kinetic Typography: Shaping Tomorrow’s Future”, drawing on her doctoral research into kinetic typography.Read moreNovember 2024Creative workshops at LUCA School of ArtsDuring the workshops students looked at how the practice of anthropometry has developed. The five days were split into several tasks. The first compared the human-body standards widely used in the applied arts: students measured themselves and checked how many of the given standard situations matched their own bodies and how many did not. In the second, working in groups, they reinterpreted a conventional piece of furniture — a bed, a table, a chair — experimentally, building a new scenario for what the standard measurements mean and looking for a new physical form for the object and possibly a new meaning for it.
